We now take a detailed look into PAL Linux releases and features all the same exploring the customizations that have been added by the UNHP developers.

 

PAL Features

Two different flavors of PAL Linux OS have been released up to now: The General Edition and the KUDCS Edition.

  •  Very appealing and easy-to-use GUI. 
  •  A whole suite of educational software that can serve as training toolkit for kids. 
  •   Pen & Paper Softwareà virtual laboratory software especially designed for first year and second year students through which they can virtually perform Chemistry and Physics practicals. (Included in the General Edition) 
  •  Embedded MPI support for parallel programming. (Included in the KUDCS Edition) 
  •  PDF Reader included along with operating system

 

Embedded Solutions


  • Pen N Paper 

            A toolkit for students of first year and second year that enables them to perform chemistry and physics practicals in a virtual laboratory environment. This comes embedded with the PAL liveCD with no extra effort involved. A much needed solution if we are to educate our kids in the best manner possible without putting burden on our economy and at the same time computerizing the educational sector at the grass root level. 

  • Whole Suite of Kids' Educational Software

        This is one of the charms of PAL and makes it very appealing for kids. Comes with a whole array of educational utilities like language training, GNU tools, mathematical quiz software, Periodic Table and many logic games.

  • MPI (Message Passing Interface)

      This requirement came from the final year students of BS (Computer Science) at the Department of Computer Science,University of Karachi for their course of Parallel Computing. The PAL live KUDCS edition includes embedded MPI support to carry out parallel programming tasks. 

 

  • Auditor's Book

    This is accounting software which includes general journal, ledger posting facility, financial statements generation and much more. A complete toolkit that can be used for daily accounting tasks………………also included in PAL KUDCS edition (FA release).

 

PAL Releases

 

Two flavors of PAL live CD have been released up to nowàGeneral Edition and KUDCS edition.PAL developers have introduced the concept of tailor-made solutions fitting to the targeted users rather than ready-made solutions that enforce a limit on the user-effectiveness of many applications including operating systems. Just like you get your clothes tailored according to your needs in the same manner PAL Linux OS introduces the concept of tailoring operating system to suit user’s needs.
